Once there was a young man
With trouble in his heart
And wrath in his hands
So he took up a sword
And he went down
There he found a dragon red
With fire in its mouth
And horns on its head
So he raised up his sword
And smote that beast down
That wasn't all, he was still filled with rage
So he climbed the white mountain
Encountered the sage
& they fought in the wind
And he threw that sage down
...
Then the young man threw his sword away
And came into town On a midsummer day
And his heart found a lass
And so he knelt down
He took that maiden by the hand
And ask if she would make him a man
And she looked in his eyes
And she took him down
...
Years went by & he awoke
With his bride by his side
And a word in his throat
And before he could speak it
His death took him down
Through the wide world
The old man fell
Until at last he came to a well
And in it was his life
And so he bent down
The man, he tasted every moment he lived
And for every mistake
He asked God to forgive
And then his eyes filled with light
And he no more went down

The high road is filled with dark angels
If they make you fall will you land on your feet?
The devil he loves his religion
Cause after all the worst poison's most sweet
And which of us is more filled with sin
And needs more savin'?
The thief prays that he'll be successful
As he creeps through that darkened door
The rich man he prays for protection
But all the while his heart's set on more
And which of them is more sincere
And who does God hear?
Loose women don't want no answers
All they're after's a roll in the hay
Alike the virgin who wants some attention
And'll do anything to get her way
And which of their heart is more pure?
I can't be too sure
If shame is a stab at redemption
Then guilt is preemptive judgement
I'd rather be wide-eyed than shameless
I'll take my excess, regardless of regret
Cause in the end without gravitas
I'd surely be lost
It's one thing to judge a man's actions
And another to see why they're done
Who among us has got true intention
More often we're the bullet than the gun
And when we're called before that white throne
Which heaven will we call our home?

I refuse
04:39
|
|||
at the end, of the tracks
of the train, that I wrecked
in the life, before the life
before the life, in which we met
body parts, severed limbs
contradicted the children
that we watched, for a spell
on a lawn beneath a bell
& I've known guilt, I've earned shame
but the fact that remains
is that I've live to see these wound
healed upon my flesh
and maybe I've paid my debts
but
I refuse, to rescind
all the word, that I spent
in the depths of intoxiquence
and desperation
and if you close the blinds
and leave to lie, the painful sigh you sighed
while I crouched in my heavy corner
a world away from your birthing bed
and what was it the little girl said...?
before he father died
while I sat upon the short blue slide
immersed in pain, from a broken heart
without end or seeming start
as she ran past, and I asked:
"What to do with this sadness?"
& she said: "Benjamin
all you have to do is feel the pain,
until it goes away."
but
I refuse, to undo
all the choices and abuse
made upon a time
while misinformed or else living a willful lie
I've been unmade, laid to waste
barely livin' day to day
but I was rebuilt by washing hands
and tying shoes
and repeating myself a thousand times:
please don't scream & stand in line
and for that while you were to my side
...(verse missing)...
and I refuse, to amend
the furtive looks, flirtatious texts
with "Please forgive"s and "Nevermind"s
for not being yours, wishin' you were mine
may friendship rule the distant ships
that cross the seas that contradict
actualities of human life
only so much love, only so much time
so sister be my maiden fair
I'll tech support, critique your hair
and someday, where the spirits mingle
I'll save you a seat at the funnest craft table
where we'll be served snack by worryless angels
uncrossing stars
so far
as we're able
